Free clutch check
If the engine revs climb but the car does not pull, the clutch is slipping and it will not get better. Other signs are a biting point that has crept up towards the top of the pedal, a judder pulling away, or a heavy pedal.
We replace clutches on cars and vans at 177 North Station Road. The price below is the fitted price for a common car with a solid flywheel. If yours has a dual mass flywheel that needs replacing too, it costs more, and we will tell you that before we start rather than after.
Clutch prices
Parts, labour and VAT included. For a common car with a solid flywheel. Vans, four wheel drive and awkward gearbox access cost more, and we quote before we start.

Questions we get asked
How do I know the clutch is going?
The clearest sign is the revs rising without the car speeding up, especially in a high gear going uphill. A biting point that has crept towards the top of the pedal, a judder pulling away, or a smell like burning paper are the others.
What is a dual mass flywheel and why does it cost more?
It is a flywheel in two halves with springs between them, fitted to most cars from around 2005 to smooth out the engine. It wears like any other part, and if it is worn there is no point putting a new clutch against it. It roughly doubles the parts bill, which is why it is priced separately here rather than sprung on you afterwards.
Can I keep driving on a slipping clutch?
For a while, and it gets worse and more expensive. A clutch that fails completely can leave you stranded, and if it damages the flywheel it turns a £399 job into a £649 one.
Do you do MOTs?
No. We are not an MOT test station, so we cannot do the test itself. What we do is everything a car fails on, and everything that comes up as an advisory: brakes, tyres, suspension, exhausts, corrosion and welding. Bring us the failure sheet and we will tell you what it costs to put right.
