What does my car need?

The answer comes back on this page, straight from the DVSA record.

We are not an MOT test station and we do not do the MOT test. If that is what you are after, any test station in Colchester can do it.

What we do is the work an MOT finds. Every test a car has had is on public record, including the advisories: the tester's written note of what is wearing out and will fail next time. Brakes, tyres, suspension, corrosion, exhausts. We fix all of it.

That record is what this page reads, and every item on it is matched to what we charge.

What comes back

  1. Your registration

That is the whole of it. No email address, no account, nothing to sign up to.

  2. What is on record

Every MOT the car has had, the mileage at each one, and everything it failed or was advised on.

  3. What it costs here

Each item on that list matched to our own price, so nothing arrives later as a surprise.

  • We do the repairs, not the test

Brakes, tyres, suspension, exhausts, corrosion and welding. That is what an advisory is a list of.

  • You see the price first

Every item on the list is matched to what we charge. No ringing round for quotes.

  • Advisories are cheaper early

An advisory is a failure that has not happened yet. Doing it now is almost always the cheaper option.

Would rather just ask?

Ring the workshop with the registration and we will read it out to you on the phone.

Where do we send it?

A name and a number is all we need. We will look the record up and ring you back.

We use this to ring you back about your car. We may also text you about it, and when things like an MOT or a service fall due. Every message says how to stop, and you can tell us to stop at any time. How we handle it

Questions we get asked

Do you do MOTs?

No. We are not an MOT test station, so we cannot do the test itself. What we do is everything a car fails on, and everything that comes up as an advisory: brakes, tyres, suspension, exhausts, corrosion and welding. Bring us the failure sheet and we will tell you what it costs to put right.

So can you MOT my car or not?

No. We are not a test station and we cannot issue an MOT certificate. Book the test wherever you like. If it fails, or comes back with advisories, bring us the sheet and we will price the work.

What is an advisory?

Something the tester noticed that is not bad enough to fail the car yet, but will be. Brake pads getting thin, a tyre near the limit, corrosion starting. They are worth doing early because they are almost always cheaper before they become failures.

Where does this information come from?

The DVSA, which publishes MOT history for vehicles tested in Great Britain. It is the same record a garage doing the test sees.

Does it cost anything?

No. Looking it up is free, there is nothing to sign up to, and you are under no obligation to have the work done here.
